Izzie

Based on one of my family’s beloved Great Danes, Izzie captures her in a moment of deep rest. She lies flush against the surface, her jowls and folded skin settling with gravity in a way that makes her feel truly asleep, as if she might exhale at any moment.

I sculpted her in 2019 using a red cone 6 clay body with grit wedged throughout to provide internal strength and subtle surface texture. Initially, she was only bisque-fired, but a few years later I completed the final firing, revealing a natural patina across her shoulders, snout, and spine.
